You have the start of the baby booming age and the rise of suburbia. Marvel Co-Stars and Hollywood Pay Tribute to Chadwick Boseman He is even more apathetic and cynical than before. Nicholson's turn as Gittes is enjoyable, but it never quite feels like the same man from Chinatown.
A man who has failed as a father and husband commits a heist to make money for his fledging business, but things become complicated when his wife interferes. Here at long last is Jack Nicholson's "The Two Jakes," seven years in the trade papers, center of prolonged teeth-gnashing at Paramount Pictures, and it turns out to be such a focused and concentrated film that every scene falls into place like clockwork; there's no feeling that it was a problem picture. I even gave it two looks - one on VHS and then one a few years later on DVD - because I wanted so much to like it....but it stunk each time. Also, "The Two Jakes" possesses the unlikable qualities of being both unexciting and uninteresting.
