Every book based movie does that, but still, I mean, they made the Mcnabbs' father crazy. I adored this book as a kid. The characters are really brought to life by the actors and actresses. We read the book in class. There are some comments that really bring this movie down. And the whole Cobble's Corner Knot? Was this review helpful? Don't even get me started on the McNabs and the party and the WHOLE END OF THE MOVIE!!!

Otherwise, steer clear.

The parts of the movie that did go by the chapter didn't exactly go by the chapter, like when he was untying Cobble's Knot, they left out the part when he had to rest on a desk for about 10-20 minutes (I don't remember, don't get on my case) and they replaced it with...him getting inside the humongous knot. What happened to Grayson? We're going to see the movie soon, but I cheated and I saw it on You tube. He was supposed to stand up on a picnic table and examine the knot, then lay down and take a nap. It was an okay idea, and let's get this clear, maniac isn't sonic. 6 out of 7 found this helpful. 1 out of 10 I give this one and a half out of four stars. Was this review helpful? And he didn't pretend fight Finsterwald. The ending is the best part throughout the whole movie. Menu. They deleted the parts with Grayson, there where no butterscotch krimpets, maniac never stayed with Aunt Dot and Uncle Dan, Amanda would appear after the frog ball even though in the book she appeared before the frog ball, maniacs dad does the stop ball even though Grayson did it in the book, Mars Bar meets Maniac before he did in the book, and worst of all, what they did with the McNab's dad. I love the book, but the movie only loosely follows the same plot. 11 out of 11 found this helpful. You must be a registered user to use the IMDb rating plugin.

So.... did anyone who made the movie read the book? The story follows twelve-year-old Jeffrey Lionel "Maniac" Magee, an orphaned runaway with many extraordinary and athletic talents, who arrives in a town divided with racial conflict. Four young boys find a shipwrecked Japanese sailor during World War II and struggle with the decision to save him. Jeffrey "Maniac" Magee was orphaned as a baby, but nothing gets him down. Grayson is missing! Well, I guess this terrible/awesome movie would have been better had Grayson I don't know, been IN THE MOVIE! Two decades earlier, the parents of twelve-year-old Jeffrey Lionel Magee (Michael Angarano) are killed by a drunk driver just after his father told him that he would show him his infamous "stop ball." The Maniac Magee book was actually pretty good, but they ruined it with the movie. If you have a comment on this movie you should really post it.
